In his First Inspection Visit The Minister of Transport visits the Port of Aden

Minister of Transport Eng./ Badr Mohammed Basalma have held on Monday, 24.11.2014 at YGAPC, an expanded meeting that discussed the Port of Aden conditions, obstacles and difficulties

faced by its marine activity.

The Minister listened from the leadership and Managers of YGAPC to a detailed explanation about the current port activity and required needs to improve it to be a competitive port to neighboring ports.

During the meeting, the Minister stressed the importance of having a clear plan to develop the Port of Aden.

He pointed to the importance of measuring performance and capacity efficiency at the port and the restructuring of these problems and address the situation transparently. The meeting came out with the formation of a committee to prepare a full report on how to develop and improve the performance of the port and the services provided to its customers, in addition to improving the financial revenues.

For his part, the Executive Chairman - Chairman of the Board of Directors of YGAPC, Captain / Abdullah Ibrahim Abkar Al-Negri explained that the Chinese project, if implemented, would transfer the Port of Aden to be a competitor to neighboring ports, pointing to the importance of the Ministry's support for development projects and the improvement of berths so that they can provide the necessary services for ships during unloading and handling operations.

The Minister also met with the staff Syndicate at YGAPC and heard from its members their financial and administrative demands.

He then urged the workers to exert more efforts to improve the work of the Corporation, stressing the readiness of the Ministry to solve the various issues concerning the rights of workers in the financial and administrative aspects.

The Minister of Transport Engineer Badr Mohammed Basalma has inspected the shipping activity at Ma’alla Wharves and heard from the Executive Chairman of YGAPC an explanation on handling and stevedoring activities and the services provided for the ships.

In the same context, the Minister of Transport made an inspection visit to Aden Container Terminal on Monday evening, where he met the Leadership of APDC and discussed at a meeting held under his chairmanship, the procedures and steps to improve the terminal work to attract new international shipping lines.

He also listened to the GM of APDC, Eng. Mohamed Abdul-Wase who gave a detailed explanation about container handling activities and efforts for the continuation of their work as well the difficulties and obstacles faced by the company and the possibility to overcome them.

The Minister assured during the meeting the Political Leadership and the Ministry of Transport great attention to the Container Terminal and its conditions in order to handle all the difficulties and improve its activity.

The Minister of Transport also met with the Container Terminal Syndicate, and heard from the head and members of the syndicate to a detailed explanation about their needs and demands. The Minister then asked for more efforts and ending strikes for the sake of the Port of Aden reputation to maintain the continued operation of the container terminal and the international shipping lines that use it.

The Meetings were attended by the under secretaries of the Ministry of Transport for land sector Mr./Ali Mutaafi and air sector Mr./ Ali Al-Ansi, the Executive Chairman of YGSPC Captain / Abdullah Ibrahim Abkar, the First Deputy Chairman Mr. / Amer Al-Zaouri, the Deputy Chairman for Administrative Affairs Mr. / Mohammed Alawi Omzrabah, the General Manager of Aden Ports Development Company Eng. Mohamed Abdulwase, the Director General of the Transportation Office of Aden Mr. / Maher Shuaibi and a number of Managers at YGAPC.
