Aden port is the largest Yemeni port which competed with the ports of New York and Rotterdam in the early sixties .. What distinguishes Aden port also is its capacity to handle all types of cargoes and ship types. It is in fact the only port in Yemen that can handle all types of cargo, without exception, also offers many other services to ships such as fuel and water bunkering, ship repair, sheltered anchorage and crew change as well as search and rescue service. In the past, Aden port did not serve only Yemen but regional countries that depended on Aden to be the entrepot for their overseas trade.

In 2015-2016Aden Container Terminal has contributed to the reception of all containers that could not reach other Yemeni ports because of conflicts. The terminal has increased its storage space to receive more containers and it has the full ability to cover the Yemen's traffic effectively. It is the only specialized terminal in Yemen and it has an annual handling capacity of up to one million TEUs. As a result of the stabilization of security in Aden and the abolition of all the checkpoints that had been developed after the war to cover all the liberated areas, the terminal was able to handle about 270 thousand TEUs in 2016. It is known that 90-95% of Yemen’s imports are consigned to the northern areas in Yemen. The Aden Container Terminal has agreed with the World Food Program to provide special warehouses to store relief items and has the ability to make such arrangements with other relief organizations as required.

Other cargoes that are transported by general cargo& bulk ships such as steel, wood, cement, wheat, including relief materials, are handled in Ma'alla Wharf which can handle all types of goods. Aden Gulf Marine Terminal, a specialised bulk grain and edible oil terminal, is the largest and deepest terminal that can accommodate the largest ships calling at any terminal in Yemen. Some companies have been able to enter into bilateral agreements with the owners and operators of grain silos in Aden, allowing them to unload relief shipments of wheat into their silos for the purpose of packaging or grinding to be ready for consumption. Ma'alla Wharf has sufficient storage space for handling all kinds of goods and if the maintenance work for the facilities that were damaged during the war is completed and some new handling equipment is introduced, it will become a perfect facility to cover the handling of goods for allof Yemen.

In parallel with these berths and storage areas, the existing oil handling facilities in the Port of Aden gives it a special advantage in handling petroleum products and crude oil through the Oil Harbour and the Aden International Marine Terminal.

The availability of infrastructure in Aden and its neighbouring governorates, whether warehouses and storage yards or other large facilities, supported by a network of good roads, will facilitate the seamless flow of goods to all parts in the Republic. The issue of land transport capacity to meet the requirements of the next stage should not be a constraint, since the Governors' office and the competent authorities are working to ensure the availability of these services at a satisfactory level for all importers from all over Yemen.

The outstanding ability of Aden Port to receive all types of ships, without exception, makes it the only port that can meet the needs of the State in the next phase as it has the storage space and operational capacity to accommodate allYemen's trade and the relief and reconstruction activities and required in the next phase of national development.
