The port of Aden succeeds in towing a giant wheat ship

October 29, 2023

The crew of the Marine Department at  Yemen Gulf of Aden Ports Corporation succeeded in towing the giant wheat ship “Poseidon-S”, which flies the Monrocan flag and carries on board 51,600 tons of bulk wheat. The ship, with a draft of 12.5 meters and a length of 190 meters, was exposed to technical problems in the propulsion system that did not enable it  from entering the port using its engines, and the process of towing it using marine tugs posed a major challenge to the navigation course in the port and its vital facilities due to the huge size of the ship and also its containment of wheat, which the local market needs.
The Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Corporation, Dr. Mohammad Alawi Amzarba, confirmed that the port leadership studied the situation and took all guarantees related to covering the risks arising from this dangerous operation, in addition to providing two large tugboats to control the ship during the towing operation, which lasted 4 hours with the assistance of the four port tugboats, thanking the management and crews of the Marine Department, led by Captain Shakeeb Mohammad Abdul-Wahed, Captain Hani Abdul-Moti, Captain Wadah Qubati, and the tug crews  participating in the implementation of the towing operation with great success..
For its part, the Protection Club, the crew of the Monrovia ship, and the Silos Company expressed their thanks to the leadership and crews of the Port of Aden for this great achievement, expressing their confidence in the ability of Aden Port staff to carry out the operation successfully.
